IMPORTANT DISASTER CONTACTS

Whether it’s a fire, flood or some other calamity, when disaster strikes your home or business, it’s important to find the right help.

For major disasters like earthquakes, floods or wildfires, the

Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, is the key coordinator in the distribution of aid to affected Americans. The agency provides housing, financial assistance, medical help and other aid to victims to help them deal with and recover from large-scale natural and man-made disasters.

FEMA also offers financial assistance that may include grants for temporary housing and home repair along with low-cost loans to repair uninsured property. The agency has other recovery programs, as well. Even home and business owners with insurance may be eligible for FEMA help if their insurance policy falls short in paying for repairs. Find out more about FEMA at www.fema.gov/

Working in partnership with FEMA is The Red Cross, an international humanitarian network that is perhaps the largest non-governmental relief organization in the world with over 100 international chapters. It provides housing, meals, emotional support and other resources to victims of small and large disasters. For more information on Red Cross services click here: www.redcross.org

There are also a number of private local, national and religious organizations available to help, including the Children’s Disaster Fund, the Salvation Army and The Volunteers of America. A list of organizations can be found here www.disastercenter.com/agency.htm
